JOHN CRAWLEY TO GUEST ON RADIO FREE ÉIREANN NYC THIS AFTERNOON
Radio Free Éireann will broadcast today from noon to 1pm New York time / 5-6pm Irish time on WBAI 99.5 FM or WBAI Free Speech Radio New York. The broadcast can also be listened to at anytime after the program concludes on WBAI Radio Archives.
As debate continues in Ireland about whether British troops should be commemorated as part of 1916 or Irish War for Independence Commemorations, as well as the status of Irish born soldiers who served in the British Army during that period, John Crawley of the 1916 Societies, an American-born former US Marine who joined the IRA and was gaoled for gun-running onboard the Marita Anne, will give his perspective on the debate and the political agenda behind it.
National AOH Director Dan Dennehy will also give a live report from the McLean Avenue Festival in Woodlawn, preview next Saturday’s Hudson Valley Irish Festival and give a report of a meeting hosted by former New York Assemblyman John Dearie to push for American support for Ireland in the wake of Brexit.
Historian and author Ed Moloney will also discuss legal moves by the British crown to use ‘Closed Material Procedures’ to keep information about murders by one of its paid agents, Freddie Scappaticci, from being made public in lawsuits by victims’ families. He will also give an update on the case against respected Irish republican Ivor Bell on charges from 1972.
